Coaching for College Helps Students Select, Apply to, and Pay for Education

As the 2017-2018 school year approaches, many high-school seniors are far along in planning for their education beyond graduation while others are in the early stages. The student’s goal should be to develop a plan to pursue a college education that best matches the student’s personal, educational, and career goals.

Several years ago, I created Coaching for College to provide coaching to students and families on all aspects of the college selection, application, and financing processes. Coaching for College helps the student and family with strategies and tips for navigating the college application processes. For the past decade, I have enjoyed helping students select, apply to, and pay for a college education.

Some of my services include the following:

  • Developing and reviewing a preliminary list of colleges that match the student’s interests and needs and college application preferences
  • Helping the student conduct research on the preliminary college list
  • Working with the student and family to narrow the list to application choices
  • Developing a calendar and timetable for preparing and submitting applications
  • Outlining the application requirements and admission criteria for each college
  • Advising the student on obtaining teacher and counselor recommendations
  • Assisting the student in preparing required essays and reviewing drafts
  • Helping the student prepare for college interviews
  • Advising the student on visiting and evaluating colleges
  • Reviewing college applications before they are submitted
  • Helping the student and family with financial aid and financing information
  • Helping the student and family evaluate acceptances and rejections

Timing and thoughtful preparation are critical because students may face several challenges in selecting and gaining admission to the college that best meets their needs. These challenges may include increased competition for admission to a limited number of seats, high costs of attendance, and stress in navigating the process. Students should begin the process during their junior year.
